I just thought that I'd let everyone know that my tank is finally cycled!!! I'm so excited. It was done on Thursday! Adam and I went yesterday and I got three pretty guppies, they are like light blue and very, very nice. Today though...the boy looks a tad bit(just a little) tattered and it looks like he is missing a fin or two....Adam is going to look at him for me...I'll probably have to give them up because my other fish are not nice to them or something. How's come I never see anyone nipping...is is possible that it's the filter or something???? I know that Adam's sister will take them though, if I have to get rid of them....I dunno what to do!?!???!-Katelyn

torn fins can be disease, or just a rip on a rock etc. Fin nipping may also be happening at night

I Have them at my house now and after looking at them It almost looks like a disease not fin nipping. does metafix mess up your cycle becuase I might try that on him to see if It helps at all. He also has a white spot just before his dorsal fin It almost looks like he is missing his scales. I will look into It further into it.

Shredded/disappearing/fuzzy looking fins can be a sign of poor water quality. Have you tested your water with drop tests to make sure everything is alright? The strips aren't nearly as accurate as the drops.
Also, cycling out your tank with fish means that it's cycled out for only those fish. When you add more, your tank will have to go through another "mini-cycle" which means another ammonia/nitrite spike before the nitrates climb higher. Try to keep a close eye on your water quality and add only a few fish at a time. If you cycle a tank again you might want to look into "fishless cycling" with either fish food or ammonia. Then you can add more fish all at once, and nothing has to go through the "torture" of the cycle.
Good luck and I hope everything turns out well!!

Usualy if the back, top or bottom fin is ripped it is usually because of another fish. If it is one of the side fins it is usually something else.

Well...Adam said that he the guppy died anyways...I didn't know that the fish had to go through a "mini-cycle". Maybe I will go test my water because Adam gave me his Kribs. He had the girl for awhile, and just bought a boy not too long ago, but then I took them for him and the boy died yesterday! So yea, we are killing fish left and right! He lost two of his guppies this morning! Maybe something is wrong with our tanks! Guess I'll test mine and find out!

The way fish are dropping it sounds like your water parameters. Double check them. Congrats on the cycle though!

by parameters, do you mean dimensions??? b/c mine is 16 height by 12 (shorter length) and 24 (longer length) for around the bottom

I've used melafix and it's never done anything to the cycle. Dunno about Pimafix though. Only bad thing about Melafix is that your arms smell like weird tea after you put them in the water....lol
