Another picture of an inhabitant of my tank; this time the little Amano shrimp. I started fish keeping about a year ago now, when I got a "free" 10 gallon tank. Turned out to be more expensive than I thought but was hooked. This is one of the six Amano shrimps I added to that tank, and that now live in their new home bigger home: 48 gallons

I have one male to four females (one of the six died unfortunately sometime during last summer, never knew why). The females are nearly always pregnant. So, I've been reading a lot about breeding Amano's, and figure I might give it a try, now that I have empty 10 and 2.5 gallon tanks.

(flash was used here, but I had to work the picture quite a bit to get this result :) )

Enjoy!

They are the ones that require brackish in order to completely develop right? Very tricky stuff. Good luck and keep us posted!

edit: I would also like to add that these guys are FANTASTIC algae eaters to anyone that was looking for some. Obviously not tanks with fish that can fit it in their mouths. :P

thank you!

Breeding doesn't look easy no, I figure I'll use the 2.5 gallon as a freshwater birthing center with sand and plants for the mother, and the 10 gallon bare as the post-natal salt water tank.

I don't know if it'll work, but doesn't hurt to try!

I'll second DripLoop's edit, these eat algae in great quantity. I had some driftwood with a whole lot of black brush looking algae in my old tank. A week after introducing the shrimp, that algae was gone!
