Vitamin D
By Mukhtaar Bruno

Vitamin D is a chemical that that dissolves in fat and is important in calcium production. When the skin is struck by ultraviolet radiation (I.e. sunlight) vitamin D is made. It is an important vitamin and if too little is in the body at certain levels, 200iu for children and adults under 50 ,the disease rickets may take place. Rickets is a disease caused by lack of calcium which in turn causes bones to soften and become weak. Unlike vitamins that dissolve in water and are expelled through urine, if vitamin D is present at a high levels it stays in the body and can reach toxic levels. A person suffering from an overdose of vitamin D may feel weak, tired, loss of appetite, nausea, and vomiting. Standing to long in sunlight can't cause a vitamin D overdose.

Hmmm.... Calcium, as an element, cannot be "produced". It can be absorbed, concentrated, released, ..., but not produced. Vitamin D aids in the absorption and retention of calcium, though...

You can't overdose on vit D, your body gets rid of any excess, or just doesn't produce it when there's already enough of it in your body.

I fail to see the purpose of posting that, but seeing as we are already talking about calcium - milk is bad for you. People think milk is your best source of calcium, but this isn't true. Milk does contain calcium, but also contains a protein which inhibits the absorbtion of calcium. A high milk intake actually causes osteoporosis. Usa and Scandinavia drink the most milk in the world, and also have the highest occurence of osteoporosis.

A high milk intake has also been linked to anaemia in kids.

Raw veggies are your best source of calcium, especially broccoli and beans.

Actually, you can overdose on Vit D. It's not one of those that the body just flushes out. I take Calcium supplements and Vit D to aid in calcium absorption.
