My Serpae tetras i have had 4 for over a 1 1/2 years and i added 4 more about a week ago. First of all the difference from my fish and the Petsmart's fish.. wow mine look great, and the stores was pretty pale and the their fins were pretty banged up. I got them and i did a 30% WC they did OK for a day or two. then one died, just stuck to the filter. A few days later i counted again and found another laying in gravel, the shrimp was feeding on it.. So down to two. I've been looking at these two fish and the one is alright, and the second is hanging around the bottom and barely comes around to eat. Anyways i saw a light reddish white bump under their bottom lips. I'm not sure what it is i did a 50% WC 2 days ago. Should i put some Stress Coat in there to make sure or get some meds or something. What could it be? Is it contagious? Thanks!

it;s possible it could a baterial infection. or that's what i came up with when i looked it up. adding salt should cure it. and then vacuuming the gravel and feeding less should help it from happening again. seriously though, search it on google.

IMO I think you must have some type of infection or disease form stress while the fish were in the shops tanks.

The best thing IMO and IME is to see if you can notice any defects on the body. Like little white lumps or anything. Scales lifting odd shaped bods. Swimming patterns.

Now I think by the way the fish are acting that they are stressed. Is the tank planted? What are your water parameters?

Also what is the temp of the water?

No real plants, Tank temp is 80 degrees

Ammonia: 0.
Nitrite: 0.
Nitrate: a little over 10

I have salt should i just follow the container or will it not help too much..

I would try and get some plants into the tank. And create places for hiding, among the plants.

Also I would lower the temp a few degrees.

For me no meds. We don't know what the problem is yet. So there is no point medicating the water when we don't know what we are medicating.

Could you post pics of what the fish look like? I mean the two that are alive.

Id have to say if 3 out of 4 die, go get your money back definitely. Are your other fish are still healthy? If it were me I'd also make sure the store knew what happened and that you are not pleased with it, but not rudely. Best of luck.
