Well, since I migrated to the south, and left my beloved Wisconsin behind, I have been starving for 2 delicacies. The first being smelt. Florida doesn't have smelt. The second, is yellow perch. Also, not found in florida. So, I had to go searching. I found a site that will send me a pound of perch for $16.00, plus a ten dollar low order fee, plus $12.00 for shipping and handling. Anyone know of a cheaper place? Or a better place?
If I was back in Wisconsin, I would just catch my own, and freeze them. I remember getting 5 gallon pail fulls. Same thing with the smelt during the smelt runs. Had fish all year round and delicious!
Ever hopeful in Florida.....

The shipping will be the killer. It will have to ship just like live fish ship and arrive in 24 hours since it's a frozen product.

Well, isn't most of the north pretty much frozen now anyway? <chuckles> I understand, so the 12.00 to ship isn't horriable, but 16.00 for a measily pound of perch???
I don't know what the going rate is, but I don't think it is that much. My god, I could buy 2lbs of king crab for that price.

That's nothing compared to the prices of where I work. Most of our cheeses sell for well over $100NZD a kilo with a couple reaching nearly $200NZD a kilo.......
I feel for ya, my freezer is full of it, lol

Sigh. I had a chest freeze packed with crappie, walleye, perch and smelt. All of which I can not get down here in florida. Guess I will have to order from this guy and see what type of foods he has.
Nothing beat going out on the boats in the bay of Green Bay and catching pail fulls.

We get smelt here, although I'm not fond of it. I hear they are fun to catch, though...

Aye, White Crappie if I can get to the fishing areas. They don't sell it though, so I will have to don on some gear, grab me a pail of fatheads, and head out to the lakes and see what I can come up with.
I remember when my mom came over from Japan. She was disgusted with freshwater fish, saying they tasted dirty. Compared to her diet, of saltwater fish and veggies, our cuisine of freshwater fish must have been pretty horriable.

I'll send you the smelts, you send me the corals!!
You don't have ocean access in Wisconsin!

Might be that you can order some through a local restaurant. Special orders are no big deal for Chef's and their sales rep.

When the smelt are running you can walk on water up here.I get two garbage bags full in seconds and spend several hours cleaning them.
They are worth every last bite!thumbs2:
