I wouldn't add any more fish until the tank has cycled.

Ow I thought it was clear the tank was already cycled. I would never tell him to buy fish without cycling the tank first. Come on I have 5 tanks of my own.

I don't know why he bought a fish tank. He knows zero about fish. He wanted foot long Goldfish for a 29 Gallon. It took an hour and 3 people to change his mind. He wanted two foot long White and a gold Goldfish. He also wanted to put 2 Smaller 4" Golds. Someone finally talked him into getting 3 4" Comet Goldfish. They are not the round ones with switch blade tails. They are straight with regular tail.

I tthink 5 Golds and a snail is good asuming they will get 6-8". What do you guys think 5 is the max?

Update: I am so Angery. I go to my friends house today. First let me tell you he goes back to the fish store a day after he had alrealy bough 3 4" comet goldfish for his 29Gallon. He buys a 6" black popeyed goldfish, Another 6" gold( I can't remember the name. It looks like a comet Goldfish, but has black spots) and 3 Red Swordtails that already have ick after being in the tank 1 day . Also his wife says he feeds the fish a lot of food 3 times a day and the water is cloudy. He should of never got a fish tank. I told him I am not helping him any more because he does not listen to me or the people at the store. I bet you since I am not helping him anymore the filter will never be cleaned, never put a new filter bag in, never clean tank or do a single water change.

man!!! that's way, way, way overstocked!!!! i think even if he changed out 100% of the water every day it wouldn't work. sorry to hear about that.

I told him, he needs to get rid of the 3 Swordtails and one of the 6" goldfish. All he tells me is so they die they die.

That is a bad attitude he has toward his new hobby, everyone has to learn, but he could at least listen and learn, seems he is set in his ways and no matter how much help or advice you give him, he don't want to learn.

it's also true that you can't help someone that doesn't want to be helped! that's a seriously bad attitude though, especially towards living things! in my opinion, he doesn't deserve them!--jeff

well, instead of having beautiful healthy happy fish, he will have sick ugly torn-up half-dead fish. You did what you could, but he refused your advice. Tell him a big old "I told you so!" when he comes crying because all of his fish die.

I'm willing to bet that he gets bored with it and gives up the hobby in 6 months. This is a good thing since he will stop killing fish, but bad if it takes 6 months of killing fish to convince him he isn't doing it right.
