Silk vs Plastic Plant Decor

Any advantages of one over the other? I've only ever had plastic, not ready for real yet, wondering about people's experiences..

I say get some real plants and you will never look back!lol

They are easy to maintain and look so much better.
If I wanted fake I would go with silk,more natural movement.:22:

I have used both and prefer the silk. What even looks better are the silk plants you can buy from a nursery center. Cheaper and better looking but make sure there are no wires that can come in contact with the water. They are making them much better than they used to with hard plastic hiding all wires now.

Decent plants for tanks in both plastic and silk can be purchased online at Thatfishplace. They have nice ones and much larger ones than sold in fish stores.

Not if you have large cichlids, silver dollars, oscars. All fish can not have a planted tank.

I use silk plants in some of my Cichlid tanks, easy to clean
and replace when they are uprooted, they don't get eaten either.
Hagan do a range of silk plants, they are actually for reptiles,
but they look awesome in a fish tank to.thumbs2:

I do agree with you on that.Some fish just love to tear plants apart.
Plastic silk or real,they have fun with them all.
Most large cichlids will tear them apart.

I just thought maybe the silk ones would fray, like when they are left out in the cemetery too long and get worn by the weather. They sure would have more natural movement than the stiffer plastic ones.
