I have been boiling a piece of driftwood for about 3 days now and I still have tea colored water. I had it soaking in a bucket for about 3 weeks and scrubbed off any soft or loose pieces. I change the water it soaks in about every other day. Any ideas?

Just keep it up, and change the water more often. It'll all come out.

It takes a few weeks sometimes. The tannins in the water doesn't look unappealing, I don't think, and lightenings up with water changes.

Thanks I'll keep up the boiling right up until either the water doesnt turn brown or I get the tank and start cycling.

I have a fairly large piece of driftwood and attempted soaking in the tub but my wife was getting upset everytime she went to go shower so I just threw it in the tank, 2 months later and bi-weekly water changes have cleared all of the tannins from the water.

LOL I was doing the same thing but I was soaking mine to get it to sink. It was a great piece of bogwood but I allowed it to dry out so it would sink no more. I finally just tossed it out. Could have gone thru the ridual of gluing it to slate but seemed more trouble than worth it.

Problem solved
take a trip to the river and find a few peices of slate, drill some holes in the slate with a massonary bit use stainless steel screws and screw the slate to the drftwood easy as 1,2,3
