View Full Version : It's not my fault, It's a disease
Hi everyone. My name is friz and I'm a Hobbieholic. I can't believe I am getting interested is a new hobby, but this looks so fun. I have yet to buy an aquarium or fish for that matter, but I can see by looking at this site that I have got to do this. I rescued a 10 gal aquarium from my aunts garage last weekend and plan to get it setup this weekend. I am not sure how I am going to find time for this. Let me explain. I am just finishing up an almost complete gutting and remodel of my house. I am constantly modifing my car. I have a motorcycle torn down in the garage right now. I am building up a new bicycle for the wife. I have to finish an RC airplane I am building for my boss. I have several RC projects needing attention. I plan to start a full scale airplane project in the garage sometime soon. Did I mention I have two kids (6-9) and a wife, and all of the ball games, recitals, honey dos, etc.. that go along with that.
Anyway, my plan is to visit the LFS this weekend and get the substrate, heater and filter. I plan to do a fishless cycle. If I tell them I need some rocks to seed my bacteria are they going to know what I am talking about? Also can I plant my tank then cycle it? I am the type that has trouble doing something partway. Can't wait for Saturday to get started.

just see if they can give ya a handful of gravel, or a big baseball sized rock in one of their tanks.
I put a seeded ornament and filter in my 10g and I had no new tank syndrome.
If you need help with fish choices, just ask

Welcome to AC. I too am a hobbyholic. Two nitro cars and a brushless Revo in the works. Lots of fun, bad for the wallet :(
I will. I am a forum junkie. I frequent RC groups, Hondaswap, Crankforward and several others. I really like the helpful nature of everyone on this site. I know I have have found the right people to get me started.
No cars. But countless wings and an outrunner HB 3d pro with a belt drive conversion. Nice to know I'm not alone in my addiction.

Actually, the more hobbies the "broker".... lol.... but hey you only live once right....:thumb:
Sometimes hobbies become occupations. Doesn't mean you have any more money, but the hobbie gets cheaper.

Cars, motorcycles, planes, and fish, my kind of guy. There is always time for one more hobby. A little advice, buy a filter that is much bigger than you need (i would go with a biowheel or an aqua clear) and buy fish that don't require pristine water. These are musts for the man with many hobbies. Good luck and welcome to the forum.

Welcome to ac
Thanks for the warm reception. I feel a little odd becoming involved here, because i don't even have my aqarium setup yet, but i thought I would get into this hobby by studing first. I have learned alot so far. I am heading to the local petstore today to find a heater, test kit, substrate, etc.. Hopefully by the end of the day I will have a tank with water in it.
