Is high pH usual in the first days of cycling?

I just started my first fishless cycle yesterday, and while testing the ammonia today I did the pH for kicks. It is really high - I have to get a new high pH kit if I want to know what the reading is. Is this usual?

whats your ph for your city water, or well, whatever u have cause that could answer your question

Tap pH is 6.8.

pH is unstable during the cycling process. It will settle down once you are finished and have a mature tank.
