i've been reading about BGA(cyanobacteria) and have heard low levels of nitrates will cause BGA..my 55 gal. is being taken over and i have never had nitrate readings over 5 usually less, most of the time you cant read any. so i've bought a pound of potassim nitrate.. how much should i dose and what would be a good level to maintain?
thanks for any help bushwhacker

I would guess nitrates 10-15 , increasing current supposedly helps.
Siphon out as much as you can.

Maracin II will kill it

from what i read its the reg. maracyn not the maracyn II, its supposed to be erythromycin.. but at the moment i cant afford the drugs. i found the potassium nitrate cheap and i've swapped the bigger lights to the tank per dave66.s algae primer,,, gotta do something before i go ballistic and rip this tank down and start from scratch, knowing i'd lose fish
