For shop, we can make whatever we want. My buds are makin subwoofer boxes, and one a canoe. But I got a great idea, ill make a AQUARIUM STAND!

My 10g high is sittin on my minifridge ( bad place, I know), but it would be easy to make a stand for.

And the best part, THE SCHOOL WILL PAY FOR THE WOOD/KNOBS and everything.

Better than payin like 60 bucks for a iron stand or more for wood stands

See if you can get your school to fork out some cash for some tempered glass and build a big aquarium. Good luck with the stand.

But i think it has 2 be wood.

In the summer ill build a tank in my own time i think. but great idea.

Heh, I work for Bayer MaterialScience, which makes Makrolon polycarbonate sheets (equivalent of GE's Lexan). I've been talking with some of the guys in maintenance at a local plant, and they said they might be able to scrounge up a few 4ft long 1/2" sheets. I think I'm in over my head :rolleyes: The only problem is, although Makrolon is about 100 times stronger than acrylic, it doesn't let as much light through, so I'm not sure how it'll look. Probably a more bluish hue

floored had a really good idea about getting the school to buy the tempered glass. you should ask them if they would do that. what could it hurt to ask them? the worst thing that could happen is they would say "no." also, if you have any friends that are in the metal shop, maybe they could make the frame for you. that would be awesome. you would have a one-off, custom tank! :ezpi_wink1:

I'd love to have a nice homemade aquarium stand! Unfortunately, my older son isn't in IA anymore (Grade 11)...and my daughter isn't far enough along in AI yet (Grade 9)...

Go ahead and see if your IA teacher will let you make a stand...I think it would be a great project!

The glass part can wait...glass is very fussy...practice with more wood first...
