I'm a long time aquarium owner/enthusiast. Have had smaller tanks as a kid, and a 29gal for the last 12 years in my basement wall. Just decided to 'upgrade' to a 55 gal. which has rekindled my interest in the hobby. Gotta get that bad boy cycled and populated!

Welcome to the site and congrats on the upgrade! Make sure that you start a tank journal here if you can and post lots of pictures. thumbs2:

Welcome to the Wonderful AC!:22:
Is the 29 cycled right now?
If it is than you will have no problem getting the other tank up and running.
You have come to the right place!

Welcome to AC. Glad you realize that tank will need to be cycled before jumping in. Enjoy your new tank and rekindling your hobby!

Swapped the media fro, the 13yr old 29gal to the 55gal last night. I tested the water before hand and actually had .25ppm ammonia in the 55gal with 3 fish. Along with the media I added two more danios and a tetra from the 29gal. Plan to check ammonia later today and add bio-sponge from the 29gal HOB to the 55gal HOB. It worked out nice they both take the same media (Whisper). Soon I plan on adding another Whisper/TopFin 60. The 29 will be broken down for a little while till I can afford a stand then turned into a goldfish tank. White substrate, black goldfish, should look cool.

55gal was down to .5ppm of ammonia last night, 0ppm nitrites and a very small amount of nitrates. Water clouded up after water change a few days ago, i forgot to turn off the filter when refilling and probably killed some of my bacteria. It's clearing up though.

Turning off your filter when refilling should not make a difference.
You should also start posting in the other sections in the forum!

If the water is chlorinated it will! I have 24 posts so far, 20 in other threads.
