My gourami had that, and then got pale and died, but that was like 4 years ago. im sure someone will know whats wrong. Whatre your parameters and temp?

unfortunately, dwarf gouramis aren't really hardy enough to handle a cycling process. the best thing you can do for it now is lots and lots of water changes and keep that ammonia low. Way low. It will take forever for you to finish your cycle that way, though. Your ammonia could be just now starting to spike right now, so feeding very sparingly so as not to add to your ammonia and lots of water changes could possibly help to keep him alive.

I don't know what black streaks mean, but going from the information provided, I can only assume it is getting sick from the cycling process.

Try some of the cycling bacterial mixes. That should minimize the amount of time needed. Constant water changes may be just as bad, because you'll be exposing the fish to semi-poor conditions for a long time.

Kimmers is right on. Gourami's are a terrible fish to use for cycling. Danio's seem to get thru the process much easier. I've noticed with gourami's that even if they make it thru the cycling that they often just end up dying later from something else due to being weakened.

The marks on it is called brown blood. It's starved for oxygen due to high levels of ammonia.

If you tank is cycling, do NO cleaning or change the filter.

hobbs, you know everything. But yeah, bad starter fish. Danios, guppys, and platys seem to be good starters.

I dont think that tetras are a good choice for cycling either, Make sure you watch them closely.

Buenos Aires Tetras are good for cycling though. Nothing kills those guys....except maybe themselves

hmm yeah but i love this gourami , whenever i come into the room it will come up to the top of the tank waiting for food!

it was smart i tell you :p

so peaceful in the tank as well , was so happy..

but i did some research and its got some disease (i forgot the name sorry lol) , but anyways , silk like waste will come from the anus, i think its a worm or something.. :s
and it will not eat that much only a few bites and it scratches it self among the ornaments..
however today it looked a bit better , the streaks weren't to bad...
i just going to leave it and hope its got a strong will.. otherwise if it dies it dies i suppose..
