how adorable is that little guy?

scientific name is a helicocranchia pfefferi and this happy little guy was caught during a deepwater plankton trawl in the pacific ocean between los angeles and catalina.

they are the size of a small advocado and live 300ft below in the water :1luvu:

Interesting. I wonder how and what it eats. It's tentacles are so short and I don't see a beak, so it must be a plankton filterer. Probably won't survive, though, due to decompression damage.

Because of its deep water habit, little is known of the behaviour of the squid, although not surprisingly, judging by its body shape, it is known to be a sluggish swimmer.

The squids' bodies are almost completely clear except for some pigment-containing cells, or chromatophores, which give this specimen its distinctive appearance.

It looks too much like a cartoon smiling face... It's actually sort of creepy in how human the 'face' looks.

Hair, eyes, nose, and a little brown smiling 'mouth'. Kinda creepy, but kinda funny looking.

I like it.

How bizarre, it looks like something directly out of Spongebob Squarepants.

This is what I meant by special care!
It would probably need some kind of tank ia a compression chamber.

It would be neat to see!
