Is a 55gal sufficient enough for Clown loaches?

Will they be ok with a school of 5-7 tiger barbs?

I'm looking into a 55gal and I've always wanted clown loaches and tiger barbs. Keep in mind I'm going from a 10gal to this (possibly).

The 55gal won't be big enough for them when they are fully grown. They do best in schools so you need to have at least five. It should be OK for quite some time though, as they do grow slowly, after the initial growth spurt.

My 5 are in my 55 gallon. They're grown to 4 inches in about 2 years.

I have 4 clowns with 8 or so tiger barbs in a 75 gal and they do fine together. The largest clown is about 1.5 inches and they are always swimming with the much smaller barbs.

Awesome! I'd like to see pics of your tank. Tiger barbs and loaches are my favorite. I've never seem them together.

I think a 55 will for for a few years too. They take forever to grow, but it's well worth it when they finally reach 4+ inches. They are a ton of fun to watch too!

That is one thing about Clown Loaches they can be slow growers which makes them ideal for 55 gallon tanks as a minimum. Just remember these Loaches when fully grow will need a tank of around 150+ gallons.

Hope all goes good with your plan.

A 55 is a perfect size to start off with. Just be aware though that if your fish breed you won't get any fry left as the loaches will eat them.
