I want to make my tank look like some of your guys' but i can't think of what i should do. I know i need a new light and more rocks. The only thing i have in my tank is rocks and two ordaments and one is broken...my light hood broke too....can you guys give me some ideas to help make my tank look better.
(i would put plants but i'm not sure how to take care of them...at school we work with industrial size tanks....If your wondering i have 1 tiger barb and two Plecostomus'
...i plan on getting more fish too...but i don't know what types)

Put a black background on the back and put a buch of plants in there, plastic or real

I prefer a dark or subdued background that doesn't stand out much, a dark substrate like dark gray or black, and lots of green plants (real or fake). It makes the colors on my fish really stand out and my tiger barb school especially likes to play "follow the leader" in a ring around the rosey game around the taller plants. It's so cute, they just chase each other around and around the plant several times. also, if you like the look of driftwood, but not the effects it takes on your water, they make fake driftwood. I love my fake driftwood, it looks so real.

I am also a big supporter of fake plants. partly because i dont have the experience with live and my Pink Kissing Gourami will destroy them.

dark backgrounds and dark substrate is the way to go, as stated by glasstapper. it really puts the plants and fish/inverts "out there" for all to see

Black backgrounds are also GREAT for yellow, orange, and red fish.

now that sounds like a colorful tank! make sure your tiger barbs don't damage the guppys' pretty tails, though. Yeah, I would also love to see some pictures when you can get your hands on a camera.

i did most of them this morning
BTW i watched the tiger barbs and all they do is play follow the leader so i'm not too worried about them attacking but i'll keep an eye on them.
