I seldom see this filter mentioned here but have heard it works just great. I'm thinking of investing in one of these but it sounds rather complicated to use.

In the past I have used a Magnum 350 with the diatom power and the special filter to do what I assume this would as well. It did an excellant job of cleaning the water to crystal clear quality though. (and removed a diatom bloom for me when I first started keeping fish).

I like the way the Vortex works as it can be moved from tank to tank without hooking attaching it to the tank. Easier to move about, I think. It sounds complicated, tho, and I just wonder if I'd be smart enough to figure it out. :)
I wonder why we don't hear of more people using them. They get good reviews from everyone that has ever tried them, it seems.

Once past that first diatom bloom, I never really needed the diatom version again. Used it once and a blue moon to make a tank look really nice for a while, as it did remove all the tiny stuff from the water that regular filtration left, but I'm assuming it falls under the "extra work" that isn't really needed category :).
If this one is that portable, it doesn't sound too bad. I use to just run mine essentially when I was cleaning the canister filter anyway.
I'm sure there is someone more educated to provide better advice though lol :)

I like the idea that it removes such small particles that even ich is removed. I may get one and give it a try. Thank you
