My mom has agreed to get us a ro system for a late christmas present, and after asking members of a local reef club what they use, it has come down to these 2 systems, which also happen to be in the budget. Out of these 2 which would you get. One also has DI and the other doesn't. My biggest question is what benifit does DI have over plain RO. Thank you for any help

To be honest neither one of those would spark any of my personal interest. I don't know what your budget is but I would look into something like this personally:

These units get pretty great reviews on reefcentral.com. They have a variety of kits price wise so be sure to peep around their site if you have some time. I have no doubt that the RO/DI kit will make your life much easier in regards to water. GLHF.

Just to be different, I'm going to throw my preference in the mix. I actually do not like RO/DI units due to the massive amounts of waste water they produce. I personally prefer this system ([Only Registered Users Can See Links.]) because of the long term costs involved. Whereas the better RO/DI units produce water that ius 98% pure, the Kati/Ani system produces water that is 99% pure. To top that off, they produce absolutely no waste water, and you never have any resins that you have to replace, you simply have to recharge them. It all depends on the TDS of your tap water as to how long the resins last between recharges, worst case scenario, a system 1 will produce 100 gallons of water between recharges. I know of a couple of reef keepers that use them and absolutely swear by them. The only down side to them: the chemicals to recharge them are rather caustic. Recharging requires the use of Muriatic Acid for one canister and Lye for the other. Of course, if you don't want to handle those chemicals, you can always send it all off to have someone do it for you.

I like those, but they are out of my budget, butthe ones oldhead suggested are a little out of range. I'll have to see what my mom is giving me for a limit, (I think its just over $100) and go from there. Thank you for the suggestions and I'll keep you posted...Wow so many to choose from it will drive you nuts
