i went to my girlfriends uncals house for the first time yesturday and what i saw was unbeliveable......he had a HUGE 300 gallon fish tank built in to the wall (more like a sections of the wall removed and the tanks in place)with 3 goldfish in...but get this, the goldfish were about 11 inches long, no joke ( i didnt measure them but im using my memory of what the looked like ) all 3 were pure gold except one had white patches on, one with a longer tail fin but the rest just like common goldfish.he said he bought them when just a few inches long and tossed them in. he feeds them every day and water changes them about every month or so, he has about 4 huge filters and lots of plants. kinda beats the 1 incher in a goldfish bowl dont ya think?

Seems like a waste of 300g's to me, just my opinion.

thats what i first thought, but atleast his goldfish are happy.i think he wants a easy, no fuss colourful fish to relax him after a hard days work, even tho tropical fish are that harder, but i didnt want to say anything as i was a guest and didnt want to annoy/upset him. plus im pleased with his take to giving the fish more room, they must be the BIGGEST,HAPPIEST goldfish in the world. (my opinion)

that's sort of similar to someone taking in a stray mutt and giving it diamond collars and homemade food. When you love your pet, you love your pet, you know?

Another good thing about goldfish is how long they live. He wont have to worry about them dieing off anytime soon. They should live even longer in those kind of conditions.

some kois can live like 175 years

With plants it would be beautiful!

300 cardinals would look nice, but imagin the price of all them, compeared to 3 small goldfish when he bought them.

I think goldfish are great fish with lots of character. They are not a waste of tank space in my opinion. I'm more fond of fancy goldfish than comets however.

If you have the pic saved on your computer, then just pull up www.tinypic.com and click browse, then find the pic. click on it and click upload on Tinypic, then copy and paste the IMG code here in a post :19:

Jakaris

That would be an awesome tank, if my tank ever malfunctions and everything dies (God forbid, that would be horrible), I would probably make my tank a coldwater tank. I dont see it happening, but just if it does.

Man, I look at that fish, and all I can think is....how much does food cost for something that big? (or for koi owners) Do you just shovel pellets in? lol

cocoa_pleco
02-15-2007, 04:36 AM
i buy, or should i say bought, big koi pellets bulk.
I can get all these types of vitamin enriched flakes bulk for 1/4 of store price

Gotta put my 2 bits in here, Goldfish are awesome. I have 4 left and they hand feed. I lost my biggest one which was 10inches last year and I balled my eyes out - he was only about 4yrs old too so it sucked. The others are fantastic, if it wasn't for them I would've never started on tropicals and Americans!! They're entertaining and I wouldn't give them away - everyone asks if I have them on steroids cause they're so big and healthy!

We've actually got an old TV that we'd like to convert into a tank - it the meantime it has my Jaguar in his 3 footer, just have to find someone here to do it. I'm bias too, goldies are awesome - mine are handfed as well!
