I am switching out my gravel for sand tomorrow. My gravel is crawling with pond snails.I have a 4gal. bucket to soak my driftwood and plants in.
I have some hornwort hygrophilia and java moss.
I need to know how much bleach to put in the bucket to kill the snails and not the plants. There is probably a large amount of eggs on them.
They have got to go!!!:fish2:
I also need to know how long to soak it.
Thanks again everyone!!!:22:

This is the instructions I followed, because of petsmart having so many darn snails. http://www.aquajake.com/blog/planting-the-tank/preparing-a-plant-for-planting/disinfecting-plants-before-or-after/

Most people say 1:20 but using up to 10:1 i cant see that hurting the plants as long as you arent talking about soaking for more than a few minutes.

LOL I was doing stem plants too so I was a little extra worried. I barley kept mine in there long at all. I think it done the trick though. I dont know how long it takes for snail eggs to hatch though so who knows :) The plants seem okay though so that was real important thumbs2:

I think it only takes a few days for pond snails.
I really am not sure though!

Not a good idea to soak in bleach. I have killed numerous plants by just dipping in bleach for 3 or 4 minutes and used the recommended amount. One part bleach to 19 parts water. It killed plants far hardier than hornwort and moss, too.

I think I would grab some Snail-Rid before going to bleach or using the Alum.

Contains copper though right?

I usually just rinse mosses with water and float them for a bit, but bunch and rooted plants i dip in a stronger bleach solution instead of rinsing them, ive never had a problem but then again i dont have the huge collection of live plants some do.
