How big is the tank.
Most North American fish need massive tanks. If you have the room to set up a small pool you could do it.You need at least 200gals.

I am a member of NANFA that is where you should ask this question. There are a number of vendors there that sell native fish. I really like sunfish especially green sunfish. They could be a good fish and you could have maybee 3 or 4 full grown ones in a 55 g. tank if you have lots of cover for them. They are a semi schooling fish and grow to about 7 inches. My avatar photo is a small about 2" one that I had in my tank. And the photo I posted is of the biggest one I have ever caught. Also another photo of another 2" one. These fish are fairly aggressive but they are smart. They quickly train to tank food if you get them young. You could also get some form of bullhead catfish, and some crayfish. The catfish or the sunfish will eventually eat the crayfish if they are too small.

I agree with the above post. Sunfish AKA bluegills or pumpkinseeds are about the only fish small enough for a 55g. Besides baitfish like shads or minnows.
Ok forget about the tank what fish would live in quarries?

Most likely catfish and sunfish. But there can be just about anything in a quarry. Quarry's are manmade and the only way things usually get into them is stocking. Bass catfish and bluegill are very common, so are Mosquito fish. Basically any fish that will live in a pond.
