Is he ever creepy, my bf had to get him.
I've never had a loach before so any tips on them would be greatly appreciated!
I have sinking pellets that I used to feed my corys, so will that be good for him? How much and often should I feed him? Thanks!

and I cannot find him!
is he fully burrowed already???
Its been like an hour and hes missing, I checked on the ground, but I didnt see him, oh and my mean gourami was kinda bugging him...

They do bury, so look for him after light's out, which is when he'll come out looking for food. Frozen Bloodworms, Mysis shrimp, small pelleted food like Hikari's, for him. Just drop in the food after light's out. Don't worry, he'll find it.
Might want to re-house the gorami for a few weeks.

Try three or four of those catfish pellets tonight, and see if they are gone in the morning. As to the gorami, if the Convicts are breeding, he's a dead fish. Could return the anti-social gorami to the pet store, I suppose.

alright, but I think I'll just add one cause they disolve so fast, it will probably be gone in about an hour, I dont think thier very good. They would probably get mouldy or something.
Do I only feed him when the lights are out?

For the time being, Hailey. When he settles in and realizes food arrives during the day, you'll see him a lot more. Give him a week or two to settle in.

I have 3. I thought they were quite beautiful...not creepy at all!

Mine don't burrow, but they 'hide' under rocks, etc.

They're out in the open a lot, swimming around. They eat the same food the goldfish eat. I quite enjoy them.

Can you get another 1or 2 of them?
They do like company. They also like to jump,so make sure it can't get out of your tank.
Here is more info on them.[Only Registered Users Can See Links.]

well there was only the one left, and around here, theres a limited supply on everything. So I was thinking of getting 2 other loaches, maybe yo-yo or clown? would they get along? and dont clowns get to big for a 33 gal? I will be upgrading the tank in about 5 months to a 80(?) gallon.

Hailey

so can I do a gravel clean and water change already?
oh and how many times should I feed him? once at night?, or once at night and once in the morning?

Hailey

I have a small gravel vac, I think I'll just use it and skim most of the surfaces, and top off the tank, because I've been reading about how thier scavengers and need clean substrate.
If its a bad idea to do it to soon please tell me.

Should be fine. I assume you used dechlorinator, and made sure the temperatures were the same or nearly? Keep an eye out for friends of his own kind, the more you have the more you'll see of them.

Hailey
12-31-2008, 05:32 AM
oh yes, of course.

...and I see a head. Feeding time got him looking out. Hes just poping his head in and out, nothing more. I can see one of his barbels are a little short too...

Gemini

What sort of substrate do you have? Anything sharp can hurt their barbels.

Hailey

No, fine gravel, he loves it.
He is out no scavenging the bottom, he even found a pellet and gobbled it all down. So yah I think hes fine, I just need to get him some buddies.
Will other loaches like yo-yo or clown work?

Hailey,
Not really. Loaches are most comfortable and social with their own kind, and weather loaches are a completely different creature than the loaches you mentioned.

ya, I didnt like loaches at all, I saw em, but they looked so creepy. But now, after having one, I love them! They bring lots of excitment to a community tank. I will always have loaches now.

Hailey

Oh yah he is, its amazing! after the second day he's out all the time. I was worried before, never owning a loach, I thought he was gonna die, or he jumped out or something.
