Hey.
Well I have decided my platys have whitespot...only got them yesterday and they were in the tank overnight GUTTED. Removed them this morning along with the copper rasboras as the LFS put them in the same bag and put them into my other tank (35 gallon biube) along with some whitespot medication and turned the temp upto about 82 degrees
Im hoping that they were not in the main setup long enough for it to spread to my other fish...what do you think?
should i add some salt to the biube along with the meds?
also should i add a bit to the main tank along with some stresszyme?
:laugh1blue:
Cheers
a very disheartened

I would suggest only medicating the ones you removed that you know for sure have ich. As for the ones in your main tank, just raise your temperature to 82F as well for a period of 10 days. You may add salt of you don't have cory cats, or just add stress zyme if you do have cory cats.
Good luck, and once you think the disease it gone, it doesn't hurt to give it a few extra days to be sure. And don't forget to add extra water changes.

Don't go overboard overmedicating.
You've got them in a hospital tank, you've got meds in there, you've raised the temperature. That's plenty of changes to stress out a fish and stress is what causes white spot (aka Ich right?). Keep an eye on them and keep an eye on the water chemistry and let the meds do their work.
As for the main tank, don't go adding things until you're sure there's a problem and you're sure what it is. Leave the fish alone, don't do anything to stress them out and keep an eye on them. If the white spots develop, it's probably easier to just treat the main tank with the meds, 'cause the parasites are in the system.
Murphy's Law is a pain in the butt, so don't go giving him a hand.
Also, there's the inverse of Murphy''s Law to keep in mind. When you take all the precautions to mitigate a problem, nothing will happen. So do what I did an buy a quarantine tank and put any new fish in there for two weeks before putting them in the main tank.
Hope this helps.

What about salt for the ones that are under medication, the rasboras and platys?
if so how much?
Ill be sure to pick up some stresszyme tomorrow n do a good hoover of the gravel.

It is not necessary to put both salt AND medication in the tank. Either method is effective if done properly, but not both at the same time.
Kimmers has a method that I particular like and will be using in the future. She doesn't use any meds at all, and just uses stress zyme along with increased temperature and increased water changes. (is that right, kimmers?) If your fish are healthy other than the ich, they will fight it off naturally. If they die, then your fish were just too weak to survive ich and would have possibly caused problems in the future. You always want to keep the healthiest specimens possible to ensure a happy and healthy tank. One weak link can spread disease to all the healthy ones.
yes, quarantine in the future will be an awesome investment, but for the time being, I would use only one of the two methods described.

ok, sounds like a plan.
Although i have added the meds to the hospital tank now so ill let that run and see what happens!
just hope they were not in the main tank long enough for it to spread
