I set up my 2.8 gallon tank and when I put in the Amano shrimp I think one jumped out. Is this possible. The shrimp may just be hiding under a rock or branch.

Yep some of the shrimp varieties will jump out of the tank. I hear it's common for ghost shrimp. You can try lowering the water level or finding a full lid of some sort.

its possible, but more likely its hiding. Shrimp are better at hiding than jumping out for sure. Is the tank covered?

the tank is not covered and the water level is really close to the top(1/4"). I think it jumped out but it may have just molted and be in hiding. There are lots of places.

Do you have something covering the filter intake? They can get sucked into it. Can stuff a sponge over the intake or cover it with pantyhose or another material. If it molted you're probably right it's in hiding probably. If if turns out it jumped out, just lower the water level a bit, or find something to put on the top.

Its a good idea to cover your tanks either way due to evaporation and the increased chance of contamination otherwise. Evap can cause major problems, I try not to top off my tanks without changing some of the water at least.

If your shrimp just molted its a very good chance that it is hiding. They are very vulnerable to just about anything when their shell is soft.
Get a lid and lower your water level a bit.

I dont want to get a lid for this tank because it will change the look and I like it the way it is. A friend came into the house today and thought that I must have a lizard in the tank because it is so clear. It looks like a block of water is sitting on my shelf. I did lower the water level. I have a screen on the filter intake that is about 1/8" holes and I dont think that the shrimp went in there. However if it did I will be able to recover it from the filter when I clean it. I can also see inside the filter but not very well. If you look at the photo you can see that the intake of the filter is on top and there is a space about 3/4" between the screen and the top of the jar that the shrimp could live in. The water goes through a screen then the media and out to the pump. I was planning on having shrimp when I built it.
