with my 2 pacu ive decided building a indoor pond would be easiest, still would be 650g. the problem is the largest pacu is a beast and flips every time you stick anything in the tank. nets are even worse. how would i be able to catch the largest one thats nearly a foot and a half long without him flying out of the tank or smashing it? i was thinking drain the tank 60% and get a koi net with thick netting and try to scoop him, but im open to other suggestions

A rod and reel come to mind....Just kidding. I would go to your local sporting goods store, and buy one of their nets. They usually have a long handle, and a bigger net area to net your fish.

thats actually a good idea, i could probably go to wal-mart and get a huge fishing net, probably half the price of a koi net

Yeah, no sense in wasting money on a specialty item, when wally world would probably have a net the size you need, and wouldn't cost you an arm and a leg to get it.

Good luck!

the first thing i thought of is using my hands, but if he ever grabbed one of my fingers and pulled he would rip it right off, pacu have massive jaws and in the wild break open brazil nuts like theyre nothing

Yeah, you go ahead and stick your hand it there. I will be behind you with a camera and keys in the other hand when we need to get you to the doctor to have your fingers sewn back on......:hmm3grin2orange:

get a "rubber" fishing net, that way the fish can't get caught on or tangled in it. It's all we use for big fish. You'll find one anywhere that sells fishin' gear.
Or if he's THAT big, go with a gaffe hook! haha...lol

A fishing net is definately the way to go.Canadian tire has them cheap enough. What did you use for a tank?Do you have a lid for it?

I agree with the rubber fishing net idea. It will not damage the fish and it can't get tangled up in it either. If you drain some of the water first it will cut down on the fish's escape routes and will keep your floors a little bit drier too!

A little tip (I learnt the hard way) don't try to save time and net two big fish at the same time....

I would take out all heaters and sharp objects in the tank before you do it..

you have to be concerned with him busting the tank, how about draining half and using clove oil to tranq him?

Hi,
I would remove anything from the tank which could hurt the fish. Then I would get a rectangular frame made up of wood or plastic, and get about as many feet [or as wide as your tank, and tall] is of shade cloth. Then you can place the net in the tank and the only way out for him is to go into the net.

What I am trying to say is it is like a drag net. Just from the surface to the bottom of the tank.

Hope this helps,
mac
