I am pretty good terms with my LFS guy, so much so that he's given my wife a job! Anyway, he's offered me a great deal on the fish in one of his show tanks, that he has decided to tear down and redo. The fish are 3 Oscars, 2 Salmon tail Catfish, and a small hybrid cichlid that he put in there to be eaten a year ago. These 6 fish have formed a kind of family unit and he wont split them. I've wanted these 2 catfish ever since I've been going in there, and salmontails in general are a bit hard to come by at the moment even though they are an Australian native fish. The biggest barrier is that tank number 11 that would be needed for these behemoths would have to be huge and pricey, and I already have 4 Oscars in another tank, beautiful though these others are. So someone PLEASE..........give me a reason not to do it!!! :hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange:

I would say go with it. At least you have a good hobby. If your wife doesnt like the idea of it, just say atleast she gets to benefit from this purchase, rather that you go out and buy a motor cycle or a muscle car that she cant even touch.

I say good for it :wink2:
But I am recovering from MTS (multiple tank syndrome). I had 8 and am down to one.

The first step to healing is admitting you have a problem:ezpi_wink1:

Perhaps you can get the whole lot and find friends to buy some of them.

I dont think he wants to seperate them. He says they are like family.

Out of the other 10 tanks are there any fish you could part with to make room for your new family????? Aren't there any purchases that you aren't as happy with as you thought you would be??????? C'mon.....you know you want to do it, and since the wife hasn't said ABSOLUTELY NOT (like I have to my hubby a time or 2) I'm thinkin she isn't against it. At least this addiction isn't damaging to your health like some I could think of.

They are his family, not yours. LOL You can do with them as you want.

I'm with Kimmers.. get rid of some other fish/tank combo's that you aren't that attached to to make some funds and room for the purchase of the new "big" tank

By 'family' he means the fish have formed a kind of family unit amongst themselves so he doesn't want to split them up. I know that if I got them then they would be mine to do as I please, but the guys giving them to me on good faith and taking me at my word. He could sell them seperately for about $600, and I'm not someone who could break a trust like that. My wife's all for the idea now, but that usually means there's gonna be some kind of payback somewhere down the line :help: .

Yes, it would not be a good idea although my earlier post was said in jest. Maybe you could get him to take the fry off your hands to sell in his store.

Fish certainly form unusual friendships. My largest angelfish swims across the tank with 6 juvies close behind (not her own) and behind the juvies are my 6 Silver Dollars. It looks so odd seeing all these fish following behind this one.

Well, the usual obstacle is the wife/girlfriend in disbelief over how much money is going into fishes, but since your wife works at a fish store, I'd say you're pretty much golden thumbs2:

Here is an idea. Get around 50 to 75 of your friends around and tell them if you all give me 10 dollars Ill eat this earthworm right in front of you.

At least It works for kids.

And I am falling into mts. I started off with one 10g tank, and now I have 3 tanks. But I setup a tank for my sister so thats 4 in our house and then I also helped set up my gfs tank.

:hmm3grin2orange: You guys are no help at all :hmm3grin2orange: We've managed to persuade the guy to agree to split them up because one of the Os has started to attack one of the Catfish. So I'm gonna get just the Catfish from him thumbs2: I have a tank on order from him, should be here in a couple of weeks. Then I'm going to be moving fish around to different tanks, so that I can also pick up a Jaguar.

Then there's only going to be 4 fish left on my wish list that I haven't got. Yep, always planning the next tank, mts is alive and well at my place :thumb:

I'm burstin' with joy :19:

The new tank arrived and I got my Salmon-tails :) I put my 4 Oscars in with them and it looks great. :19: I never thought it was possible to fall in love with a fish, but I can't take my eyes off them :hmm3grin2orange:

Glad this problem resolved itself and happy for you that you have a new tank, as well. This is such fun!

Yes, we do love our fish. I hate it when people get fish and never bother with them, change the water and watch them die of disease. Makes you wonder why they bothered.

I get up in the morning and make my coffee in the dark. I don't want to "wake my fish up". LOL
