Say something requires dexterous manipulation at the bottom of your 30" tall tank. Do you use gloves? Does anyone know where to get gloves to cover your entire arm? A local janitorial supply shop did not have any. The frightening chemical gloves I obtained (like these ([Only Registered Users Can See Links.]), only black) from a home medical store were not as waterproof as the sales rep believed. Now I feel pretty silly.

I got mine from my local SW store. They're certainly waterproof.

However, I find them clumsy, so I don't use them unless I have to.

I also have tank-rash.

It's a tradeoff.

I don't use gloves for tank work, but have you looked at a local hardware store for something that might work for you?

Check out Drs. Foster and Smith ([Only Registered Users Can See Links.]) for some gloves.

Yep, but I didn't find a long pair.

Check out Drs. Foster and Smith ([Only Registered Users Can See Links.]) for some gloves.

Ah, "Aqua gloves." That helps--I can search for places carrying those ([Only Registered Users Can See Links.]). I was thinking that pet-related sites would set an unreasonable price on gloves, but this might be the ticket. Thanks. I hope they're grippy.

My tanks an extra tall and i don't use gloves.

I do however have one of those cutting/grabbing tools if i just need to pick something up off the bottom or plant something.

Then if i really need to get hands on i usually do it during a water change when the water is 1/2 empty.

The colors of the pair at Big Al's are reminiscent of a haz-mat Superman. You never know when such a quality could come in handy. I think I'll get one variety or another as I've gotten a rash in spite of washing soon after touching the water.

theyre a lifesaver in saltwater tanks, i only use wrist length gloves now and i need some elbow length ones. the salt is strong on your skin and ive got some rashes on my right arm. im not allergic to zoanthids (or allergic to anything) but i still use gloves. i dont in freshwater though unless i have a open cut on my hand

Try finding farm supplies for cheap, disposable ones. They need to stick their whole arm in there for insemination with bull sperm.

yeah, dont make the same mistake i did. i never wore gloves at all last year, and i was handling some live rock and out came a bristleworm. got me with his bristles, and if i ever put pressure on the finger it had a nasty sharp sting

drumachine always said to stick your finger in vinegar for 10 minutes to dissolve the bristles, it doesnt work. i tried getting tweezers and got a few out.

the next couple of days i still had sharp pain in my finger. i just gave up and took a knife and the tweezers and started ripping off skin. must have worked cause after i had no more pain. since that day i always wear gloves

I picked up some gloves as Fosters and Smith a while ago. I found them really hard to use and even harder to keep on my arm while I was in the tank. I found you lose sensation and touch, as well as grip when trying to pickup/move plants or ornaments.

Honestly, the easiest thing I found was to just wash your arms really well before and after you play in the tanks.
