what species of tetra? its gonna certainly depend on size first and foremost
there are many many species of tetras, and the black ghost knife can get huge

Not by nature, as they are more aquatic worm, insect larvae and small crustacean eaters. However, black ghost knife fish do get large enough and tetras are small enough, that like all fish, a much larger one will eat much smaller ones.

Not the Cardinals, as their torpedo shape and small size is too easy to swallow. Phantoms, Lemons and Serpae would be OK, though, since they all grow large enough to not be considered food for your knife fish.

I agree with Dave66.
Just so you know Ghost Knife Fish do grow large and consequently need a tank much larger than a 100 gallons. These fish can grow up to 20 inches long.

From personal experience I'd strongly recommend a a black African knife, or even a group if you have a 4' or larger tank. They're generally hardier fish and don't grow nearly as large as BGK's, though they do need a bit of swimming space. Totally safe to keep with the tetra's you mentioned, provided the cardinals aren't small, younger ones.

My well fed black ghost knife had no problems making all my cardinals disappear within a couple days. They can definitely eat torpedo-shaped tetras.
