Probably be safe when the melted plastic has cooled and hardened again. Might be a good idea to rinse that plastic really well after doing it all the same. Smell it, if it doesn't smell like it did before you melted it it might be best to give it a miss. Probably not safe for you tho.. some plastics will definately give off toxic fumes when melted so be careful breathing in those fumes and make sure you do it in a very well ventilated area :o)
