View Full Version : What should a 75 gallon cost on craigs list?
$300 for christmas, so im looking for 75. I looked on there, and the ones in my area are salt water set up ones. So my question is What should it cost? I noticed theres a big jump from 55 being around 100-150, to 75s being 200-250.

You should be able to find one for $300. Some people ask way too much for a used tank, tho, so good luck with that. I would want to see it with water in it, I think.
Ok thank you, Xd Hopefully it comes with all the accessorys, Or I may just get a 55

I vote go for the whole deal. Look for one with a stand/filter/etc. ;))
I would not pay 300..
I would look for the 125-175 range..

i would never pay more than $75 for a 75g tank itself. Like Red Sev I might pay 125 if its got a stand and accessories. You can find new 75's for $300 or less.

Well my LFS sells brand new 75G tanks for $120. If you wanted to go cheap you could get some cinder blocks, build your own stand, or find a sturdy piece of furniture and re-inforce it. Or we sell a complete 75G setup with stand, tank, glass canopy and single bulb strip for $250. Honestly Id buy a new tank...and fashion my own stand...go to Lowes and get some glass cut for a canopy and check out ebay for a 4ft strip and some good used canisters. You could do it that way with a brand new tank for well under what your paying for somebody elses used tank.
Thanks for all the advice guys. Still not sure on what to do yet. Hopefully ill find a deal, or if not, Ill buy new

I agree it should be less than 150 bucks used. You need to save some dough for all the accessories anyways, remember, a 75 gallon is gonna need almost 100 bucks worth of substrate if you use gravel or ec or estes or anything in that price range. It adds up quick
I dont think it will be 100 bucks for substrate unless it is a 75 long.. I can see you spending at most 40 bucks..

It really just depends on how high you want the sub, and so also which sub you use. 2 inches of eco in a 75 is gonna cost alot more than 40$. 1 bag is $30 in my area, thats 20lbs. Big als its about the same when you add shipping, 30 bucks. There is no way you can even cover the whole bottom of the tank with one bag, id say you are looking at 3 bags at the least. so 90$. Of course, you use pool sand and you could spend maybe 20 bucks total.
However, the only point im trying to make here is you should save a huge portion of that cash for all the accessories for the tank, which are usually more expensive.
