How expensive I'm not sure, I think it was in the 6 digits when I saw the price for one. Here we go, PFK says £200,000 was an offer. Whatever that is in USD.
They are so expensive because:
a.) they are beautiful
b.) they are rare
They are a naturally occuring color morph, just like platinum bichirs. Naturally occuring or not, they don't occur often.

I forgot to mention, the "platinum" is varied. You can find them anywhere from an albino coloration with a somewhat silver sheen to full blown white snow platinum, like the Aquarama 2007 fish, that was a beauty. If I could find a male and female, I'd devote all my time to breeding them. Then we'll see about your xmas present ;)
I have 50 bucks i can donate :)

I think this fish is more expensive than you realise! :hmm3grin2orange:
I doubt an ordinary citizen could buy one, even if he did sell his house. They are mostly intended for large public aquariums or corporations.
They range from $50 000-$500 000 depending on the quality.
