I have always taken my pics in jpg form, but I have been contemplating
trying to shoot in RAW for some time now, it's a bit like taking a pic
and ending up with a digital negative that you have to process yourself.
Anyway earlier on I took the plunge and tried shooting in RAW for the first
time, here's the resulting image I ended up with. (I only had time to process
the one pic) I would love to hear your opinions on shooting in RAW,
all feedback is greatly appreciated.

Thanks mate. ut sorry I can just afford it. But I saving up right now to get my self a 1999 Subaru Legacy Twin Turbo for my 20th birthday.:19:

And well you know money can be hard to get at times and I am on a good racket right now, so I want to save as much as I can, in between fish keeping. It looks like I won't have to pay much more of my 1999 Camry. The folks will pay the rest if I pass in my electrical :19: .

Very nice photo. Should have saved that one for the POTM. You really should wear your clothes when you shoot pictures of your fish. They might be embarrassed!

Very nice photo. Should have saved that one for the POTM.

I didn't save it because it was processed in RAW and not straight from the camera, i'd rather enter a pic in jpg like everyone else. mind you with the quality of the pics in the comps on this forum, a fella could do with a
little bit of help. :hmm3grin2orange:

Hey Brookfish, I have the "Raw" option on my camera too, though I haven't used it yet. When you say you "processed" the picture....what exactly do you mean?

Mith when you shoot in RAW the pics come out like a negative in a
film pic, and basically you process it into the finished article.
First you'll need a programme to process the pics, I used a cheapy
programme called adobe photoshop elements 5.0, This programme
will only procees the pics in 8bit and not 16bit like most of the
more expensive photoshop programmes but it does my job.
To process a pic you add light, contrast, colour, saturation levels etc,
untill you get something you like the look of, then save the pic as a jpg
and post or print as desired.
If you want to try it out bud, give me a pm and i'll help you out if I can.
Or if you have a question just post it up here and i'll try to answer it.

I have corel Draw 8 and it just seems it would be easier to edit a regular jpg photo...lol. I guess I was thinking RAW was like a more detailed file, say like BMP files.

Oh well, for now I'll just stay focused on being able to take crisp pictires....heh. (when I get lucky)
