View Full Version : Danio is a bloody pain

I have one zebra danio left that must be 4 years old. He thinks he's the boss of the tank and even chases my rainbows that are 4 times larger than he is. His "home" is in one sword plant and god help any other fish that happens to venture in his territory. The chase is on!

He is one mean little fish and I suspect will probably live forever just so he can be the tormentor of all.

Sure. He'd chase female danio's to death. I don't like danio's and don't want more.

Danios are mean as heck. I had one steal a bloodworm right out of my DP's mouth last night. I have no idea how that species survives what with the way that they dine on their own eggs. And mine are a school of 7.

My giant danio's were a school of 7. Those went bye-bye!! I found the small danio's meaner, tho.

yeah, I'm not a fan of them, but they are my dither fish, so they get a bit of a beating once in a while.

They serve a purpose but I sure don't understand this love affair this one has with this sword plant. He won't venture 4 inches from it.

You could always take it in to the LFS, if you can catch it.

Mine are too smart, we already tried moving them, out of a dozen in a 75 gallon tank and 2 hours spent trying to catch them, we have 6 left in there.

Mine aren't mean, but they're kept in a tank with other aggressive fish and I think they'd be goners if they tried to attack my sev.

Hi,
Yes there is something about Zebra Danois which is amazing.
I had 8 and they ended up all killing each-other. They never stopped chasing them-selves around my 30 gallon long tank. None stop. Always nipping and chasing, to the point they all killed them selves of bare-for the largest one.. IMO they really are a odd fish to keep. IME I would never keep Danois again.

Harlequin Rasboras, Dwarf Rasboras, Eye Spot Rasboras, Redline Rasboras.
These fish IMO and IME are great.

You gotta be kidding me. I can't wait for him to meet his maker and if I could catch him in that planted tank, he would have met him a long time ago.
:help:

One trick to catching these little fish is...........ta-da............a 10" net! Looks so funny to see a little, bitty, wee fish in a whale net but it sure makes things easier. Except if the tank is planted, of course, which makes nothing easy.

I agree with the rasbora. Active, schooling and not that constant chasing. Danio's are a good cycling fish but I don't care for them at all. They literally shredded the fins on my long finned danio's the first night.

I would probably make a tank divider and *borrow* an oscar fromthe LFS and have him and that danio confined to the same little spot. Bit of revenge :P

Just wait until he is in a corner (or possibly his plant), stick the big net in along one side of the tank, and chase him into it with a smaller net.
