One of my friends dads got a 55 gallon, cycled it, and got a JD. I was a little concerned that a 55 was to small, so if it is, can someone tell me, that way I can pass on the news. Thank you! and Happy Holidays

A 55 is the absolute minimum for a fish of that size.:22:

55g is not the best for a JD, but it will work, its better than a oscar in a 55g

While they can get to 12 inches, I've never seen one over 10. They are aggressive though and they won't be able to have any other fish in there with it. 55 gallon is the minimum for them, a 75 gallon would be perfect for them.

They sure are a great fish though, super intellegent and pretty dang pretty.

If they want to fork out the cash, you could suggest an EBJD, whatever happens when they get the color morph it seems to take out both aggression and a bit of size. The biggest I've seen or heard of was 8".

Thanks for the advice everyone! I had told him, and he said aw shoot, but didnt seem to suprised, as I think as he researched more, he found it was a little larger then he had expected it to get. I think he is planning on returning it. I had urged him that if he wanted cichlids, dwarfs were an awesome choice.
