Calvus are one of my favorite tang fish - beautiful!! :18: I have a soft spot for the white ones... but the blacks are equally lovely :11:

Enjoy !!!!!!! They do breed quite easy so get ready for little calvins hehehe

I agree the white's are gorgeous to and I actually had a choice of both
colour morphs, but I thought the markings on these were awesome and
they were wild caught, so I chose the blacks.
Little calvins huh, how cute a name is that, thumbs2:

I can get the black one's here also, they're the perfect compliment to a frontosa tank, they just grow sooooo slooooowww. I would get some if I didn't have enough fish in my tank already.

no significant hump on the calvus mate, but the front will
grow enough for 2, lol

hey Brookfish, today I also picked up 4 small black calvus (I couldn't resist). I put them in my 20 gallon fry tank with small eartheater fry. Hopefully in a year they will be big enough to go into my main tank with the big fronts. They look just like the one's in your pics. Beautiful fish, but slow growers.. just watch that your fronts don't outgrow them and swallow them.

Nice fish!

The fish in your photo, however, is actually an altolamprologus compressiceps, a close relative to a. calvus.

I always thought alto. calvus and compressiceps were synonyms.

the way you tell the diffrence in sex is the size.

Males are significantly larger then there female counter part.

I always thought alto. calvus and compressiceps were synonyms....

They're two separate species with physical and pattern differences, but are members of the same genus. And as with the calvus', there are several types of comps as well.

not quite the color that yours are showing. I think mine are still quite a bit smaller. They're only about half an inch. I figure I'll see how much they can grow in a year and by next christmas maybe they can go in the big tank with the big fronts ??
