okay so far i have 5 african dwarf frogs in a 20 gallon tank with gravel on the bottom and sand on the top. along with plants and a PVC tube. i was thinking about adding the following fish:
1 bristlenose Pleco
4-6 danios
4-6 platies
3-4 tetras
1-2 mollies
1-2 swordtails
i was also going to add more PVC pipe and driftwood.
i wouldn't add them all at once, i was going to add them in that order and wait a week or two before adding another type of fish.
so the question is: am i overstocking?
annndddd if i added another bristlenose pleco, and they had babies would all the babies survive? anndd would 2 bristlenose pleco be ovestocking the tank because i heard that you could only add one per 20 gallons.
I think you could do
4 platies OR 4 tetras OR 4 danios.. YOu would have to choose which ones you want.. and you could add a BN..

Slightly overstocked if you go with the lower end of each of those numbers.
Maybe choose between the mollies and the platies?
Or maybe choose one of the three livebearers and get more of that kind - one male and several females. Or choose any two and get a male and female pair?
I'll let someone else handle the pleco question but I'm thinking not.
to be honest i would stay away from the livebearers in a 20 becuase the tank can be over populated quick.. I would get 4-5 male guppies with some danios and a BN..

Welcome to the AC!
I do agree on this mix unless you are after a breeding program. You will have fry in that tank in no time!
I would go with less species and larger schools!

IMO I would get a large shoal of Rasboras/Cardinals/Some type of small tetra and a school of Panda Corys, perhaps an Apple snail and BN also ;o)
You could put in a bristlenosed pleco and 1 or 2 rams!

when i think of rams, i think of cichlids, and when i think of cichlids i think of agression. i cannot have agression in my tank at all. my frogs will go into hiding and i'll never see them. because i used to have a betts in my tank and my betta flared at them and they freaked out and hardly ate.

why not add them all?
why not add them all?
The reason for only adding one type is to help not over stock your tank, which will happen other wise. IMO I would not go for a Bristle Nose Pleco in a 20. If you did IMO I think you would hardly see your Frogs at all. Now as for Frogs as far as I know they need some place to which to be able to get out of the water. So IMO that would take up space in your tank, which will limit your stocking potential. So I would just have the tank set-up for the Frogs.
What I would do is just make a Frog tank with it set-up with a section of land and water for them.

with gravel on the bottom and sand on the top.
IMO you will find that after a short time you will have just gravel on top of the sand unless you have sand the whole depth of the gravel and sand.
As for having Bristle Nose in a 20 gallon, you could do two. But you would need good filtration and make sure you don't have males.

they're african dwarf frogs...they don't need land, they live their whole life in water.
Sorry my mistake. I did not pic that up.

I personally wouldn't put two BNs in a twenty. Bristlenoses are fairly shy fish, and like having their own space, so two in such a small area may make them grouchy. Plus, if your BNs poo anything like mine, having two of them in a 20 successfully will require lots of cleaning and water changes (probably at least 2x a week).

That is why I said females. males would have a good long fight for space. While females are slightly smaller and very mild mannered.
Also having excellent filtration would help with the water quality.
But thanks for bringing that points up. I forgot to say that lot's of water changes would be required.
