Christmas kinda stinks once your kids grow up and have their own lives but I was thinking today about my most awesome Christmas that I'll never forget.
I would say it's been about 12 years ago now.......I was living in FL and about 8 of us very good friends went on a gambling junket out of Ft Myers on a cruise ship. These are one-day deals, very cheap and go from 10
am to around 8 PM. You board the cruise ship, have the huge banquet breakfast then sit around while the band rocks and you drink Bloody Marys.
Once you reach international waters, the gambling casino opens up for the heavy hitters. I remember thinking, on that beautiful FL morning, with that band blasting out some good rock music, spending the day with my best friends while the dolphins jumped alongside that ship that nothing was any better than that.
When you're a Michiganer and have lived in the ice and snow for years and here you are .........Christmas morning........and it's 80 degrees and spending the day with dolphins and friends......wow.

That sure sounds like a blast Lady Hobbs!
I have Thankfully had a lot of great Christmas days.I still remember waking up Christmas morning as a kid and not being able to get close to the tree!I have always tried to do that for my boys as well.As they get older the gifts get much more expensive and that pile of gifts has been shrinking every year.
This year is really kicking my butt! All they are getting is clothing and maybe Rock Band for the XBOX or Guitar Hero 4.
They scored large last year and at the beginning of the year as well.Laptops ,tvs, stereos, and more. They don't need anything else now, except having their old man win the lottery.
If I do win the lotterythumbs2: There will be one hell of a party!

Don't know if I have a fav. Just being around the fam. and watching all the kids open their gifts. That's always fun! It really is a special time.

Well.... It wasn't the best, but one of the most memorables was when I finally saw snow on Christmas day... one year ago. When I was living in Mexico I never saw snow and then, after I moved to Canada and got to see it, I never saw it on Christmas day... Last year wit as the first time I had a "White Christmas"!!!

Christmas with little kids is the best. They love everything they get and get so excited.

My christmas' as a kid were pretty sucky. Parents always got hammered drinking and arguments almost always broke out.
Hoping that this year will be my best as we moved into our first home a month ago and we are having christmas lunch with all my wife's and my family and we have a one month old baby this year too. Should be nice.
All I want for Christmas is an AC Gift... lol. My profile looks a bit boring without one.

Time for a whole new tradition, Taz, one of your own with your own family.
Sounds like Christmas will be a huge improvement already.

My best one was about 2 years ago. My parents/my moms mom and myself all do the Xmas thing on Xmas eve. My mom and dad go to my dads parents on Xmas day...I never go with them for personal reasons.
So anyway, I had my friends over for our usual holiday bash. We did the usual stuff like grill steaks in the snow...dig out the dusty old mixed drink recipe book...exchange gifts and so on. This one was just extra special because it was my SO's and my first Xmas "together", we had been friends for years but it was just extra special that year. After all of my other friends left my SO and I sat infront of the fireplace in my bedroom sipping hot chocolate and talking for most of the night.

Anyone know a cure for Santafobia? My little two year old girl, Raven, goes into hysterics every time she sees him or someone mentions that he will be coming into her room to deliver presents. Must be the strange man in the house thing!!
And you're right Hobbs, Christmas is great with children around. But I've got to say that I still associate Christmas with cold and snow and since I moved to Oz from England it isn't quite the same. Not to say that it isn't going to be a great one this year in the swimming pool and on the beach with the little ones ... but I kind of miss the frostbite:ssmile: (at least for an hour or so!!)
Here's me wishing you all a very Merry Christmas (warm or cold) and a much better economic New Year ...

When I was a kid I was afraid of santa, the easter bunny, etc. Can you maybe hang her stocking in a room different than her bedroom? It helped me a lot to know that santa or the easter bunny would not be coming into my room while I was asleep.

I have to say Christmas with lots of snow in the country and the whole family comes to visit on Boxing Day but christmas eve is quiet. nothing like getting stuck in a blizzard! having all your goodies in of course and tree up. And you manage to make it before the snow gets worse. Australia for christmas now Skinny Chicken to a newfoundlander that would be a welcome change. Enjoy the beach. I just gave cookies to my godchild so that will make him happy for Christmas his favourite cookies. ... my freezer is full with goodies. Food makes the best Christmas..yes hams ... and steaks.... oh red wine mulled not bad... You all have a very merry christmas and enjoy good health in the New Year.

I don't think I have a favourite Christmas - Every year is a BLAST!
I particulary liked a Chrsitmas day, 2 yrs ago :)) Their were only 2 presents each under the tree that night, on Xmas eve. But then the next morning their was HEAPS of pressies!!!! Our stockings were filled too teh brim, and everyone was happy, laughing and joyful.
But the best thing, was that me and my brother had made a pass-the-parcel, complete with lollies, chocolate and notes embedded in each layer! We put on music and passed the parcel around, everyone indulging the lollies and chocolate, admiring the messages, poems and little notes :))))
But I love every Xmas! I am sooooooooo excited about this Xmas coming! You would think a teenager would be over 'the xmas thingy' but no way! I think even when I am 33 yrs old, I STILL will be head-over-heals about santa, giving and pressies!

This is so true, the reasons I love Christmas may change, but it's always going to be my favorite time of year.
As kids I loved Christmas because of the presents, the decorations, and the special meals. I went through a period of a year or two where christmas just wasn't that fun (I think it was in middle school) where the presents weren't exciting anymore but I wasn't old enough to enjoy christmas in an "adult" manner. Thankfully that didn't last long, and now I enjoy christmas as much as ever. The special meals and decorations still bring me pleasure, but now I like giving gifts and see the people I love enjoy them much more than recieving them myself.
In response to Lady Hobb's question, I hope my favorite christmas has yet to be had. I can't wait until I can share Christmas with my own children, that really will be a treat!

Best Christmases I ever had were when I was a kid, of course..
No worries..
Let everybody else do the cooking, the driving, the shopping, the cleaning, the decorating, pay the Man..
Just sit back and eat the cookies, open the presents, sleep in the car...
Awesome, awesome times.. :)

My thoughts exactly...it's funny... When you're a child you can't wait to grow up...when you're an adult you long for the carefree days of being a kid! My best Christmases were as a child. No matter what was under the tree, the filled stocking was really exciting...:sock:

I agree Sharon - the stocking is indeed very exciting! LOL
Every year my mum gives my siblings and me a small ornament each with our name and year on the back. I love them so much! My favourite is a little Angel ornament, because on the back my mums has put: U r my Angel
