I've noticed in my 10g tank there are a bunch of little green hair looking things sticking to my glass is this green algae? How do i get rid of it? Its not by any sunlight but I do leave my light on all day and I think I have about 2 watts per gallon going in the tank.

probably algae- a small pleco, or some treatments work... or, you can just get a scraper and let your filter catchit. also, try to keep your lights on for 9 hours/day max to prevent future growth of algae

How are your nitrates doing? I know I only have trouble with algae when my nitrates start rising (which has been quite a while since I've been doing 50% PWC's). Also, do you have all plastic, or some real plants in your tank?
If you do have a rising nitrate problem, in addition to upping your PWC's you could add some fast growing plants to use up nitrates as well. With 2 watts per gallon you could easily have a nice Amazon sword as a centrepiece and some Hygrophila at the back (that thing grows like a weed, infact it is a weed, but it'll suck up nutrients very quickly, leaving less nutrients for algae to use).

Hey adam! This helps alot with all algae! Keep the light on for 5-6 hours and then leave it off for 2-3 hours During the middle of the day. Then leave it on for another 5-6 hours until you turn it off for the night. It works for me!

adam. your tank is brand new. algae is very common in this instance. instead of introducing chemicals and the such into the tank, just scrape it off the glass with an algae scraper. i like the "mag-float" brand magnetic scrapers. most lfs's carry them, including petsmart/petco. give it a try. -jeff

trust me jeff I wasnt going to use any chemicals, Ill look into one of those magnetic scrapers, although Im starting to try to limit my spending money because I spent ALLOT of money on my 55g and now Im starting to set up a 29g. I have a scraper thing but idk if it is small enough to get on and around my heater and filter
thanks for the help. Ive also noticed that people in my family are turning my lights on so they are probibly on for a long time durring the day. And Since I work at night im not sure if they are turning it off at night becuase I came home this morning and my 55g light was on. School was cancled for them so they could have come downstairs and turned it on but I asked them and they dont seem to know about it. Im going to have to give my family a talk.
