Hi,

My tank parameters are perfect and all the fish are happy but I have some kinda greyish/white hairy stuff growing on some of the vallis leaves and on most of the java moss.. Both of these are in the line of the powerhead..

Dunno if that makes a difference? I have loads of other species of plant in the tank but none are affected.. The vallis and the javamoss are also the two closest to the surface..

Can anyone tell me what it is and if I need to get rid of it?

Cheers

Me too.... and black beard algae..... as if one algae wasn't enough. My ludwigia has the most hair algae and I keep running a toothbrush up the stems to get the worst of it. Ugly, annoying stuff for sure.

I used your tooth brush idea... Im guessing the algae is not harmful to the fish.. Just a bit of an eye sore

If it comes off easily, it is probably not black beard algae... but both types of algae (both are red algae) are easily reated with Fluorish Excel... if you can get a hold of it, I would recommend you to use it. I have used it with my bba infestation and I'm very happy with the results.

If it comes off easily it may just be some yummy fungus
