Advice to all newcomers into the world of saltwater: You should start with reading one or both of these books before you even start thinking about buying equipment or setting up a tank: The New Marine Aquarium; Step-by-Step Setup and Stocking Guide, by Michael S. Paletta or The Conscientious Marine Aquarist: A Commonsense Handbook for Successful Saltwater Hobbyists, by Bob Fenner are about the best two books to buy on how to setup and maintain saltwater tanks. They will teach you a lot.

Besides that research, research, and then research some more, along with taking your time with every step.

I highly recommend the Paletta book, have not read the Fenner. I will use the old saying i've heard around here that "nothing good happens fast in a marine aquarium." You need to read atleast one of those books then do more independent research until you get a grasp of the basics. After you have done that I would come back here and make a new thread to ask any additional questions you have. Saltwater is not something that you can just fill a tank with water and add salt and expect results. Good luck!

The best way to run it is to do your homework first. And while you're doing the reading and asking the questions save every dollar you can unearth cause you'll need it all to get started.
