Some of my fish actually let me pet them, so I am rewarded with that. Just I have to be careful when I stick my big ol paw into the tank...LOL, usually scares the be-jesus out of em.

No, I don't. But my killies like to nibble on me whenever I put my hand in the tank. Not exactly painful, but gives a rather unpleasant pinching feeling.

Having my hands in the tanks daily (heavy planted set ups) my fish are all so used to me being in the tank they don't even blink an eye anymore and carry on as usual... quite a few come to my hands when busy to see what I am up to and will rub up and down my hand but I don't physically go after them with my hand to pet them. I did have a apisto that loved it and hardly let me get on with planting as he was constantly rubbing and intwining in and out my fingers LOL It does make vacuuming a chore as they are all so tame about it I am always terrified to suck one up and have to physically push them out of the way.

My fish are all very tame and trusting..

My hands always seem to be in the 160L - fixing up rock structures, replanting the plants and wiping off algae :)) I also got the Angels very young, so they learned from a tender age that my hands were safe and warm ;)

I love petting my fish - I admit I love it, but I would never chase a fish around the tank! :)) My Angels are by far the most tame fish in the 160L - They ADOOORRREEE to be petted, they swim through my hands, rub against my palms and basically trying to get soem attention! XD

All my fish are tame in the retrospect that they carry on with their business and don't freak out with W/C's etc - I am lucky! XD

:2: :2:Those discus of mine will eat all the bloodworms from your hand. but I am terribly allergic so I just put the food in. oH tame little things they are -well not so little anymore. The angels no way...they are not tame. Saucy fish they are. the will duck for cover. Discus well more curious. IF you kept discus which you might they really do watch what is going on. They will all gather in the corner of the tank and watch you. hahhah But petting your fish...hahhahha my wienner dogs would be jealous.

:sley: Where did you find your upside down catfish? Does he hide during the day? What are they like tempermental wise???? How is your perch? I think it was you who had a perch?? Don't think i can keep one of those from what i have read. They would eat my new harlequins.

nope, if i stuck my hand in my 125g, my bicolor foxface would probably spine me, getting poison in my blood and i would have to go to the hospital, and if i stuck my hand in my 90g my pacus would see my finger as food and literally rip it off. no petting here

My female dwarf gourami allows herself to be petted. She's a trusting fish, and when she thinks she'll be fed she's not afraid of rubbing against or nipping at any fingers that are in the tank. I don't go out of my way to pet her, but as I said, when my hands are in the tank it happens anyway.

My sister likes petting my female dwarf and wishes her female betta would let her pet her. She's trying to teach the betta to get used to her fingers in the water by trying to hand feed her, but the betta is very suspicious. She tells me that the betta gives her dirty looks until she drops the pellet, then swims up to quickly eat it and goes back to watching her suspiciously. :hmm3grin2orange:

I used to have a Clown Loach that would come and sit in my hand and eat the freeze dried tubifex from between my fingers. It was really cool. He would just sit there and eat away. No sudden movements from me when he did that, I didn't feel like getting cut.

Hi,
None of my fish will let me bare my angel, pet them.

Other wise IMO I try not to touch them. I don't want to damage their slim coating.

My betta will pet itself. Meaning when my hand is in the tank for any reason, it will immediately swim to my hand then dart and rub against it, coming back to do that over and over. Not surprising since when he sees me, he acts like he wants to play the whole time. Hes quite the dancer.

Just be gentle and move your fingers with the grain of the scales if they let you and try not to touch the eyes or gills. I would also highly recommend you wash your hands very well after touching them.

petting fish can take off some of their protective slime coat so I try to not touch them the best I can. But my new GSP who really is like a puppy (instantly out of the bag he was against the glass, begging for food, not afraid of the net at all, pecking at everything) he liked to pick at my fingers when I put them in the tank. I touched him once the other day to see what he would do and he just sat there, buzzing around like nothing happened.

I actually don't like touching the fish, it freaks me out. I have a thing against anything with scales, I have a huge fear of snakes and while I love my fishies, I can't bring myself to touch them.

My friend thinks I'm crazy. She will let her goupies nibble on her fingers all day long.

At first I didn't either, but then one day one of them flew out of the net while transferring it from one tank to the other. Only choice was to scoop it up with hands.

:hmm3grin2orange: try picking up a scaly old pleco off your floor when it has leaped out of the tank. I had an angel do that as well. But it would take off some of their slime coat. I just stick my hand in with a some blood worms and the discus come up and eat it!

Oh I had to grab a foot long pleco. It was surprising the texture of it, for some odd reason I had expected it to be different. Better than having to grab a slime covered fish probably though hehe.

:hmm3grin2orange: oh I had two fish out two huge ones once to bring them back to the store.... love those plecs ... but yes scaly..fantastic fish though. I hear this huge splash sometimes in the night and it is the other two big ones i have now. I used to think it was the angels until I saw what was in there.

Had to clean the friend's 55g, so had to remove the pleco for a bit and well I had never really handled a large fish like that before. So I reach in there to grab it and it goes crazy. Sure I expected it to squirm a bit, but wow, ended up splashing a lot of water on us and the floor.

I got piranhas, no way.

Theyre too skittish right now to come outta the log when I am cleaning the tank.
