I have read that rams are at ease with large schools of neons or pencil fish.I have also seen on this forum that cichlids with neons not a good idea.I got the 150 gallon tank setup awaiting the cycle to begin and finish then I want to decide what to put in it .I definately wanna go with Rams and corys and hopefully neons.Give it to me folks or hit me with your ideas. Also want live plants

That sounds fine. I have had Blue Rams with Neon Tetras in a 20g and have had no problems. It should definitely be do able in a 150g tank, unless you stock it with way too many Rams. Ultimately, it will depend on the personality of the Rams. Personally, I would go with Cardinal Tetras rather then Neon Tetras.

What's the footprint of the tank? Should be able to keep at least 4 pairs in there if you provide them with clear territory markers (driftwood/plants) to break the line of site and reduce territorial spats.
There shouldn't be any issues with the GBR and neons/cardinals. Admittedly, that would be a pretty awesome tank with a large school of neon/cardinals to fill up the open space.

:fish: :fish: nothing like cichlids and rams together. hard to get the rams here. I have had no luck with them. Anyone have any ideas on care i could be missing something. they should be excellent with discus-wel they were not and did not last. The water should have been perfect for them. Maybe they do like it as acidic as the discus do. But the neons are thriving in the discus tank.

I have GBR with neons and rummies and they do not interact at all.
I would do as you are planning but instead of one enormous school of neons I would have two or three large schools - maybe neons/cardinals, rummies and rasboras.
Perhaps a small school of a mid size tetra too such as black skirt, serpae or lemon.
The neons sure are pretty but they do not school that tightly and are, frankly, boring to watch. Watching a gang of ten rummies tightly move around my 110g is one of the highlights for me. Lemon Tetras are also supposed to school well as are rasboras.

After watching a black skirt tetra eat a neon a couple weeks ago, I no longer trust anything with neons other than other small fish.

Funny, My Neons school very tightly and my new diamond tetras (6 so far) don't at all.

Check POTM competition for a good picture of rummy nose tetras. You probably could go with either Blue Rams or Bolivian Rams.
