Hi everyone, hope your holidays are going well. After getting the 150 gallon tank home and up on the stand in the living room,I finally got it filled with water.I had to plumb the sump and modify it so I could have a spot for filter media.Once the water temp gets up I,m gonna add Bala sharks and some corys from our 55gal to get the cycling going but I borrowed a bag of ceramic rings from the 55 ,does that mean the tank wont cycle or will it do a mini cycle? Will post pics when I get it stocked a bit.Still not sure what I wanna put in it I liked the idea of dwarf cichlids, neons ,corys, and pencil fish but what about dwarf gouramies ?or will they eat/kill the large schools of neons ?

When you get ready to add fish, add the dirty filter media from the 55 gallon to get a quicker cycle.

But......you will not want neons and bala sharks or neons and cichlids and neons should go in no tank not yet cycled.

I would pass on the sharks big time. They are totally wild, furious swimmers, get very large, like to be in schools, will jump from the tank and in general, keep everything in an uproar. Slow moving fish will not be happy with these fast swimmers and they really belong in a tank of about 800 gallons or more.

Throw that bag of bio rings in your 55 for now to keep the bacteria alive on them.

Ya the Balas will go back to the 55 gal after tank is cycled I was hoping schools of neons would be ok with rams and other dwarfs but not a good idea huh?Ok I put bio rings back in 55 at what point should it go back in the 150?

put the bio rings in the sump and put some fish ( that you plan to keep in the tank ) in there to keep the filter going..as long as you keep up on checks and water changes you'll be ok

800!? How many bala sharks have you had!? Mine that I had for 4 years and were about 7 inches each (5 of them) in a 90 gallon were pretty peacefull....800!!!???

EDIT: Just read (dont know why I never knew this after owning them so long) but they can grow to 16 inches. Holy cow. Well ya a school of those would need much bigger. lol my bad. but still 800? I wold say even 300 should be alright for about 5 sharks.
