Hey everybody.
Just found this site, and seems pretty good so far, so decided to sign up.
I kept aquariums for several years while living in Ottawa Ontario. Started with a 40 Gallon tall. Ended up with my last tank being a 55 gallon tank (I think) that had at times cichlids (convits, Jack Dempseys, Red Devils...) and Tropical community.
When we moved back to Nova Scotia, I got out of the hobby due to space restrictions, and am just now starting to clean things up and am setting up my 90 gallon tank (48x24x18" 24 being the height of the tank). A lot of this is being spured by my kids being fascinated by fish in the stores, and my wanting to share this with them.
I'm planning on a community tank again. The lfs's are small, so stock will be somewhat limited :) but we'll make due.
My plan is for a natural look, live plants, and schools of simple fish like neons, tetra's and such.
I'm not sure I have my head around how many fish I will end up with, but I'm figuring to start with maybe a small school of hardy fish (6 maybe), while cycling the tank and grow from their slowly. 1" of fish per gallon will probably serve me well with these smaller tropicals. The kids may drive a lot of the choices :) (with my guidance)
I still have to work out lighting for this tank, and if I have a top for it still in one piece. I'm probably going to have to buy a few new things, as some of my equipment may no longer work/be sufficient for the 90 gallons. I want enough light that I can pull of some decent growth of plants, so I may look at what I can buy for shop lights and work those in as the lighting - as I'd rather not spend too much on it.
Anyway, I'll probably post up some questions, and do a lot of lurking/reading.
