baby fish!!

I was cleaning my Malawi tank and found a baby! About 1/2 inch. Never noticed anything til then. I'll have to pay more attention to this tank.

Dunno, it's kinda greyish blue, I have auratus, johanni and elongatus in there.

if there is plenty of cover.

That's awesome! A very nice surprise for you I bet. My sister's cichlids had some fry a while back, there's five of the little guys in there, they're all about an inch or so long now. Congrats!

Thanks! I got him out so he's in a tank by himself now. Didn't seem interested in food last night however. I'll watch him. Did I do the right thing or should I have left well enough alone?

Congrats! Baby African cichlids are really good at hiding, I remember my brother's Red Empress. He moved each of the brooding females to a seperate tank long before they released and there were still 5 baby fish in the rock work when he took down the tank.

keep lots of tiny nooks and crannies for babies to hide from bigger fish and you'll end up with more than one next time hopefully. They do hide very well.

Is the tank you moved it to cycled?
Have you IDed it yet?

Not yet, he's not very colorful but is about twice the size!! I took a filter off my cycled tank when I moved him. He didn't seem happy all alone so I got a breeder box and hes in the big tank now. He seems to know they can't reach him!! I am leaving for a 5 day vacation and will have a friend check a couple of those days, I am hoping to be able to release him, or maybe he will be fine in there still?
