... they started fighting? I mean they are "kissing" and trying to catch each other's tails, so... The tank is big enough and has quite a few hiding spaces, so do you think they'll stop?

The kissing is liplocking in cichlids when they fight... if you are lucky it is a male and female testing each others compatibility as mates... if you are unlucky it is 2 males or females and they will carry on fighting pretty much all the time.

The first is female. The last pic is dark and it's hard to tell, but I'm thinking another female...

I am seeing the same as Sharon thumbs2: First is a female - second although dark looks like it has the female markings as well....
They will be battling for a while to see who will be alpha female....

:fish: :fish: when they mature you will be able to tell. The male will be bigger but keep in mind that when they mate ..the male will colour up just like the female. They will really look after their young !! But the male will look as colourful as the female.

Cool stuff! thx guys. What about this - do you think it'll help if I get another one (or two), just so it's not the same one that's battered all the time? Bad idea, good idea?
Thx.

It's probably a bad idea. If you get a male, two will pair and bully the other female. Can you return one of the females for a male?

:fish: :goldfish: OH hellooo talking of kribs oh they love to mate if given the chance but be careful they are prolific breeders. Very beautiful and interesting. IF you have never bred them you must! Females and males both get very protective with their young and that is what is interesting to watch. Males will get just as colourful as the female and both parents will guard the young. I kept getting batches in a 125 and had to dismantle the tank after two years. You would have to have a bunch ....two females and one male won't work.

let me restate the question - what would be a good number of kribs to keep in my tank (look @ sig), and in what combination? Thx.

You really only have room for a pair, which is why I suggested returning a female for a male, if you want to breed. If you don't want to breed, keep the two females...:santacold:

Good stuff. Well, I don't have room to breed them. Maube later when I upgrade, if I do... so, for now - 2 females it is.
Thank you again.:11:
