What native fish can I have in a 20 gallon? I already selected the madtom. Should the tank be coldwater and does it need current?:hmm3grin2orange:

Where abouts are you living. Tis is the answer to your question. Depending on where you are is the answer to what type of fish you can keep. Fo me to keep a native fish in NZ I would need about a 20,000 gallon dam with a stream with a water temp of around 2'c and much lower at times.

Hope this helps mate,

I have had several natives. Most of the sunfish get too big for a 20. I would suggest Blue or orange spot sunfish or banded sunfish. The sunfish are smart and interesting to have. I also like mad toms. The other thing you should have in a natives tank is a crayfish. I have one in my 29 and it cleans up all the mess but it will dig alot and eat some plants. I have not tried them but dwarf crayfish could be neat. There are lots on natives available at [Only Registered Users Can See Links.] and on theNANFA website under vendors. I hope this helps.
