Right now, I have three long finned blue danios. I had 6 at one point, but I'm down to 3 now. I don't have a lot of room in my tank right now, but I was wondering, if I decide to build up my Danio school again, would the long-finned blue Danios mix w/ tZebra Danios or would they ignore each other?

Great question! I have lepards and zebras that school together..so I'm guessing the blues would fit right in..just a guess though.

Those are all actually the same species, Danio rerio. Zebra, gold, blue, leopard, and the long-finned version of all of these are all just different breeds of the wild type, the zebra danio. Schooling is a little different. They may or may not school depending on: tank size, other fish, the individual fish, etc.

IME, they do fine together. Not the same as having them in the same school of the same species but they mix well. I've got 1 zebra danio in with 6 blue danios in my 75 gallon and he schools with them. Not as much as he did when he was with the rest of his school but it's his own fault that he's still there. Stupid thing didn't want to be caught when we moved the zebras out of the tank.

I had the long finned and got some of the zebra's. The zebra's shedded the fins of the long finned overnight.

Yeap my longfinned zebras started schooling with the 4 new longfinned leopard danios and the zebras actually even started looking like the leopards...pretty cool stuff.

Leopards, Zebras, Blues, Pearls, ect., they're all fun to watch. I've got a dominate male leopard that's a total clown. He always tries to eat the tablets that I put in to feed the bronze cories. He rubs against the tab and tries to flip it over. He just doesn't realize it won't fit into his mouth. But that doesn't stop him from trying.

I would say mixing different danio species is fine, and they may school some, but mixing different fin varieties is probably a bad idea. You may end up with a situation like hobbs had.
hmm interesting.. I have have a mix between long and short and they are fine.. I guess it depends on the fish.. Its your choice..

I picked up 3 long finned blue danios yesterday evening and put them in the tank with 3 zebras and 2 leopards. All seem to be doing just fine, acting like danios do, chasing each other from one end of the tank to the other, then top to bottom. They never stop. I could watch'em for hours..although after a while I do get dizzy..lol..and so do they. :fish:
