I am now leaning toward the Peacocks over the mbuna as I am looking for a prarie dog housing type tank with lots of interaction but not murder.

I was thinking all male for color but now am leaning toward females for more interaction.

In this tank would it be possible to add one or two single male, less aggressive mbuna to the mix - such as a yellow lab? I know the general rule is no but I also see a lot of folks doing it. Anyone here ever seen it and have opinions?

Is it possible? Yes.
Is it best to allow the peacocks to thrive? No.

The peacocks do best and are most comfortable when alone. They really are worth it when they are alone and truly thrive.

Have you read the sticky on peacocks?
